HÄ(?)KELN VINTAGE

The good thing about living here in the country are the great thrift stores. You never know what to expect when coming across one and it's exciting to dig through the huge piles of stuff.
Jen took me last week to a great thrift store in ............. (I forgot the name of the town, but it's close to Neustadt a. d. Aisch). When driving through the little town you all of a sudden see an old car door leaning against a fence with "open" spray painted on it. After Jen squeezed the car through a minuscule opening to a courtyard we parked in front of an old barn. The place was filled with stuff from floor to ceiling (literally), including the attic.

I wasn't quite sure what I was looking for, but when I saw this leaning in the corner my heart jumped because of excitement:

This poster (front and back) was used in a German school for crocheting instruction. Just last week I decided to learn how to crochet since I saw Moonstitches rhubarb scarf on her blog. At least this poster will teach me the basic crocheting stitches and that in large scale. I can sit back on my couch and look from afar.

SNOW WHITE'S COFFIN

So Caro's excited about design. She loves things to look beautiful. And then there was this at the flea market in Nuremberg:

I can appreciate this for its modish qualities, although I trust myself less than I do when evaluating a record purchase based on cover art and song titles. Most importantly I really wanted the thing to work. I figured that 35 euros wasn't an expensive gamble on a record player that might give me pleasure because, you know, it played records. I plugged it in and realized that it probably wasn't grounded because it hummed and crackled. The table didn't spin. The radio is receiving nothing. So I've got a DIY fix-it project and please feel free to comment with suggestions. It does look pretty but I'd really like it to, you know, play records.

YELLOW !

Yes, it's finally done and for the first time I blocked a lace project. Just in time, because here in Germany the fall weather arrived.

TREMPELMARKT

On Friday we went to the Trempelmarkt in Nürnberg, which is supposedly the largest flea market in Germany. It rained the whole time we were there, so our stay was shorter than planned......
but we found some great little gadgets, like Snow White's Coffin (above) and this WMF (Bauhaus/Art Deco) Coffee Pot:

It hasn't been cleaned for years (upper left), so I had my first experience with polishing silver. This officially makes feel all grown up.
